Christmas villages are a fun and festive way to express your personal style and create wonderful new memories with your family every year. Since 1990, collectors have delighted in the stunning collections and beautiful designs offered by Lemax®. Whether you've been a life-long collector, or are looking to start a new holiday tradition, check out our top five tips for creating a top-notch Christmas village display.

1. Select a Location for Display

No matter where you display your Lemax pieces, be creative! As your collection will undoubtedly grow over the years, so will your ideas for your display. There are many sites in your home that are ideal for a Lemax village display, such as:

       •  China Cabinet              •  End Table

       •  Bookcase                     •  Mantlepiece

       •  Bay Window                 •  Beneath a Christmas Tree

       •  In a Holiday Wreath

Showcase your display in an area of your home where people congregate. You might enjoy creating a Lemax centerpiece for your dining room table, perfect for holiday guests. Or, display your village nestled below the bottom branches of your Christmas tree, surrounded by gifts for the perfect backdrop.

2. Create Ambiance with a Background

Use your imagination in greating a backdrop for your Lemax holiday village display. A light blue fabric, stabled or glued to the backing, suggests a clear sky. A darker background creates a nighttime effect.

Add tiny clear twinkle ilghts to simulate stars in the night sky. Perhaps, just where you place your display is all the setting you need.

3. Design with Depth in Mind

To creatively display your village, design it to include various levels - just as a real city isn't all flat, neither should be your town. You'll want to place larger pieces in back, and smaller accessories closer to the front. Create a base using books, blocks or bricks - or, use styrofoam, as it's easy to shape to customize support for individual buildings.

Once your levels have been built, cover with cloth in the right colors and textures to mimic the landscape - felt and muslin are great options, and can be found at any fabric store. Once your landscape is complete, you can begin decorating.

4. Set the Scene with Lighting & Accessories

Your village will truly come to life with its own lights, but adding additional spotlights and lanterns will really add an extra-special touch to your village. Use rope lights and natural garlands as a festive accent along the edge of where you've placed your village. Or, tuck twinkle lights between the layers of fabric used for snow to give a subtle glow throughout.

Pro Tip: Be sure to use LED lights, as they are safer for use around fabric, since they let off less heat than other bulb types.

5. It's All in the Details

Once your village is lit, it's time to add a beautiful finish by focusing on the details. Whether you choose a focal point (a ski lift, an ice skating rink, or even Santa's workshop) or center your design around a particular look & feel (maybe rustic & vintage or light & bright), arrange buildings in a way that best highlights key pieces.

Other than houses, don't forget about people, benches, streetlamps, trees, and decor. You want your village to have the hustle, bustle, and energy of a lively town.
