Good Product But Very Bad ExampleThis was my second Suncast Rain Barrel. I bought the original one from another online vendor. The product itself is quite good and I was certainly pleased enough to buy another. The screen works well to keep smaller debris out but the top does tend to gather leaves and other items that sometimes block the openings and reduce rainwater capture. I have had a few issues with the drain hose kinking but careful handling makes it work OK. A very important point is that. the barrel needs to stand on a support of sufficient height to drain into a watering can or other receptacle properly. On my first barrel I only had 3 layers of bricks for it to sit only about 10" off the ground. That amount of height made it a little two awkward when filling my particular watering can. I increased the height of the new barrel with another row of bricks which helped but I'd really recommend 24 inches if you can get the materials to do it. I was simple using bricks which I already had left over. Note that if you get the height wrong and want to alter it afterward, you need to be prepared to empty the Barrel (it weighs several hundred pounds when full) and re-cut your downspout.
Now to the issues I had with the barrel I received from Fleet Farm. While the price was better than the other vendor, the barrel itself was very poorly packaged and looked quite used/abused. There was no original box. Someone had taped many pieces of cardboard all over the barrel for shipping. There were signs of water exposure and rust damage to the two hose clamps. One clamp was so badly rusted it could no longer be tightened and I had to replace that clamp with a new one. The instruction manual was water damaged and rust-stained. There were a number of deep gouges on the bottom of the barrel and the interior had stains of some kind that wouldn’t rinse out. Since it’s just a rain barrel and needn’t look pretty, I decided to use it as is instead of hassling with a return. However, I am very disappointed in receiving something in such poor condition.
