Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broken second time I used it The handle to release the fertilizer broke off second time I used it. Scotts 3000 spreader. A piece of Junk!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible, cheaply built product I only used this product once and the cheap plastic handle broke off. Big waste of money for a product that doesn't hold up. The gears and handle need to be made of metal or something sturdier than what is used.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worse than useless Used this with a lawn fertilizer that recommended spreading with this Scotts Easy Hand-Held Broadcast Spreader at setting 4. The gearing on this spreader is so wrong that the mechanism was blocked continually, needing excess force to turn the handle, causing fertilizer to spill everywhere. I shall be astonished if my lawn survives this. In the end, I found it easier to spread the fetilizer simply broadcasting by hand, and not use this spreader.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed prematurely I thought this would be perfect for a 400 sq ft lawn area in the back of our house. However, it is poorly constructed of cheap plastic and failed after one or two uses

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product difficult to use Hard to turn cra Had one of these for years and worked very well. Gave original away and purchased a new one. Looks very similar but crank mechanism is apparently different. Very hard to turn crank even with no product in hopper.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap, and built to never let you forget it. Wish I had read the reviews here before buying the product. Worked great, once. Worked pretty well the 2nd time. By the 3rd the cheap plastic gears were binding up and it was getting tough to turn the handle. By the 4th use it required a lot of effort to turn the handle at all and by the 5th it was so seized up that the handle broke off entirely. Tried some stopgap repairs grafted some metal pieces in and while they don't break, I still can't generate enough torque to get the gears to spin. Spend more and get something else right up front because sooner rather than later you're going to be forced to do that anyway.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Save up for something better For my first season as a lawn maintainer, I decided to pick one of these up from my local hardware shop to help dispense seed over my lawn. This thing has been nothing but trouble from day one. Before the first hopper load of seed had passed, the rotating mechanism nearly locked up. I blew it out with a light PSI and pushed through the blisters and finished my very small yard. Something isn't right about the way the gears and mechanism engages, are sealed, or operate. It has gotten to the point that I actively felt the need to deter others from purchasing this product. A force unreasonable for the flimsy plastic handle is necessary to rotate the broadcaster. As far as I can see, there are no objects obstructing the mechanism, and if it weren't for the droves of other people complaining of the same issue, I would spend some time to try and disassemble the product to find the faults, but by now it will be better served at the bottom of my refuse bin.
