Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tool Bought this chainsaw a few months ago and it has been meeting my demands everytime. The chainsaws battery life cant keep up with a gas powered chainsaw but I have multiple batteries and chargers so I can work non stop with it. I'd say it gets about 20 or so cuts on a 12 inch log per charge on 6 amp hr battery depending on sharpness of the chain. Its definately useful when only needing to make a few cuts instead of using a gas one that needs to be warmed up before use. Only downside of this chainsaw is that you need to empty the bar oil after each use otherwise what's left in it slowly leaks out. Overall great product for those not using chainsaw full time and dont like dealing with mixed fuel gas ones.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Guaranteed tough? Take a look inside... I'm super disappointed with this chainsaw. It has plenty of power and would be perfect for the work I do around the house. The price is right too. But it's just not built to last. I ignored the reviews about problems with fully charging the battery, leaking bar oil, the saw just cutting out and not starting. It seems that the saw will not work if the battery isn't charged to a certain level. There should be some light or indicator of this. Otherwise I thought maybe there was a short in the switch. The problem was the battery wouldn't fully charge the first time. I plugged it in, waited a few hours and saw that the light was solid on the charger. Tested the battery, and it only had one bar. It wouldn't charge anymore. So, I only got 30 minutes of work. I started to remember the reviews about this problem. That caused me to investigate further. I came across a video where the saw was deconstructed to reveal really flimsy parts. Look up BOLTR: DeWalt Chainsaw Engineering Fail. I'm really sad that I can't add this chainsaw - which again, is more than adequate power wise - to my collection of DeWalt power tools. Hopefully they'll make a chainsaw that lives up to their name in the near future...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very nice for a battery powered saw I use this saw to clear fallen branches and Privet Hedge on a 60 acre farm. The battery usually lasts longer than I do which means 3 or 4 hours of intermittent cutting. My observations: There is no case for the saw. I built a box that holds the saw, a replacement chain, 2 batteries and a quart of oil. You will want something similar because the saw does shed bar oil. I had a issue with the chain coming off the sprocket. I found that the sprocket cover washer had come loose. Reseating it and tightening the screw did not tighten the cover washer until I added another washer under the screw. Now the chain stays on the sprocket but I wonder if my fix is a long-term solution. I bought this saw to clear branches and brush between half inch to 6 inch in diameter. It does great with that. Other than the cover washer issue, I would recommend this saw

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best investment I live in the middle of a ten acre forrest and have owned my chainsaw for about 3 months. I’m pretty sure that you can’t be any rougher on a tool than I have with this saw. I have used it more in 3 months than most people would in a couple of years. Its is so simple to use and maintain, it doesn’t leak chain lube all over like my other chainsaws. The battery life is great, I always take 2 freshly changed 60v batteries with me and usually by the time that I’m halfway through my second battery I’m too tired to cut anymore so the batteries last longer than me! No hassles of starting and stopping like you have with gas. This is my favorite chainsaw and would recommend to anyone, this thing is tough.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Raymond DeWalt Would lose his mind if he knew. I own probably $5000 in DeWalt tools and use them daily, so I have no axe to grind. I'll be fair and tell you what's good first. It's got an impressive amount of power and exceptional torque, which is what is expected from brushless motors. The bar and chain are decent quality (Oregon) and the battery life is passable if not great. Now hold onto your hat for the bad. The bar retention system is ALL plastic and rubber, and the bar is so poorly clamped that it will deflect to the side as much as two inches, which is more than enough for it to cause the chain drivers to climb the edges of the bar and pop off. There is a clutching mechanism in the bar retention nut that prevents tightening the bar anywhere close to the required torque to actually secure it, but it appears that's actually engineered in to keep you from breaking the plastic retention system. The chain tensioner is a toolless spur-gear design that's a cool concept, but once again it's all held together by the cheesy plastic housing and any amount of torque applied to the bar (well below normal use) causes the mechanism to slip and the chain gets loose and bang, you're having to reinstall the chain again. It's also oddly shaped to accomodate the battery housing so it doesn't fit into a typical chainsaw box. Last and probably the worst part, the oil tank is too small and runs out of chain oil well before the battery dies, making it very easy to clog up and overheat a bar and chain, which will trash the chain and accelerate wear on the bar by about 20x. In short, if you need this saw more than 5 times a year for 15 minutes at a time, don't buy it, it WILL make you insane trying to keep it running. I'd expect this kind of quality from Harbor Freight, not DeWalt.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dead on arrival, oil reservoir cap also broken Charged battery, saw dead - completely unresponsive. Oil fill cap also required a lot of force to rotate the first time and, due to a mis-installed pivot pin, broke. I am a professional woodworker with 40 years of chainsaw experience and very nearly every power tool you can name, corded or not. I depend upon tools that actually work.
